Lionsgate to devote $25 million per year for Youtube star projects
Lionsgate to devote $25 million per year for Youtube star projects
Lionsgate, the studio behind Saw and The Hunger Games, is taking action in a new field of the film industry, namely, turning internet stars into full-blown movie stars. In the past, many have tried to use YouTube as a platform for eventual career success. People such as Justin Bieber and Jay Pharaoh have been able to do so, while others have gained a large following but failed to move onto something more. Not only will this help these internet stars, but the initiative will help Lionsgate get in touch with a younger audience, and one less likely to go to a movie theater and watch films. Though the budget for these films is small, the return has been a far greater percentage of the budget than blockbuster films.
